Dr Mottram will take a history and complete a thorough examination using a Dermatosope.  This is a special microscope used in Dermatology to identify any worrying skin lesions. Your concerns and expectations will then be discussed and a treatment plan can be created.

[/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”How will my skin lesion be removed?”][vc_column_text]Depending on the type size and location of the skin lesion there may be a number of options for removal.

Simple surgical excision under local anaesthetic is often used. The wound may be closed using either simple paper steri strips, traditional stitches/sutures or using simple cautery.

Some lesions may be removed by freezing the skin with liquid Nitrogen (Cryotherapy), using an electric current to cauterise the lesion (Hyfrecator/ Electrosurgery) or by using the ND YAG laser.

All options will be discussed with the patient prior to the procedure.
[/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”Is it painful having these removed?”][vc_column_text]Topical anaesthetic cream may be applied prior to the treatment of small lesions, or a small injection of local anaesthetic may be required. This is designed to numb the treatment area and make the experience more comfortable. Cryotherapy does not require an anaesthetic.
[/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”How long does the procedure take?”][vc_column_text]This depends on the size of skin lesion and number being treated. Usually most procedures taken between 15-30 minutes.[/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”Are all lesions sent off to the lab for histopathology?”][vc_column_text]No. Not all lesions require histopathology. If Dr Mottram feels this is clinically required there will be an additional lab fee. Please see price list for details. [/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”Can I drive home afterwards?”][vc_column_text]Yes, nearly everybody will be able to drive home unless we have removed a large lesion from your hand or foot in which case your hand or foot may remain numb for a few hours. [/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”What about aftercare? “][vc_column_text]If stitches/sutures have been necessary these are generally removed after 5-7 days. We will offer you a review appointment at the 2 week post op. We may suggest the use of various silicone dressing or creams to get the best result possible.
[/vc_column_text][/toggle][toggle color=”Default” title=”Will I have a scar? “][vc_column_text]Many of our treatment methods leave minimal scarring however we always advise patients to expect some form of residual mark on the skin after any surgical removal. These will range from barely visible marks after using laser/electrosurgery to a visible scar after a surgical excision and traditional wound closure using stitches/sutures. Our aim is to minimise any scarring.

Dr Mottram has also performed many successful scar reduction procedures during his years of skin cancer surgery.
